Newest Update

Journal entry by Scott Mann

Hey Team Mates,

Here is a quick update on Rex AND Anita. I think it's important to cover both because they are BOTH going through it.

First, despite all the struggle...they have both received good news over all and we are very blessed and very grateful. Your prayers and well wishes are working! Please keep them coming.

Second, Anita has been going through some health challenges. She's had massive back issues. She has a compression fracture in her spine and we think it's from the effect the chemo has had on her bones. Immense pain as you can imagine. She saw the Doc this week. She's in a brace for now and we've had an MRI to see what needs to happen next. She's fighting through it, but man it makes it tough for her to navigate the world with that chronic pain.

On the high side, she's still cancer free and all of her scans and check ups are REALLY encouraging. I can't say enough about Moffitt and Brown Cancer Centers. Top-notch care, followed by top-notch results. And most importantly, thanks to God for these blessings.

Now Rex: Looks like we are getting the A Fib under control. I can't tell you how important that is to all the other stuff that's happening. I wouldn't be surprise if that AFIB affected him with the fall he had 7 weeks back that broke his femur. It's rough stuff. The heart doc changed his meds and shocked his heart (four times!) to get his heart back in rhythm. Since then, we've all noticed a real change in his mental presence and he seems like he's not in distress anymore. So huge.

The visit to the Oncologist was also very encouraging. We saw that the tumors have been radically reduced. But Dr Bellow wants to resume the treatments now that his leg is healing up. He's already had another regimen. We have a PET scan in two weeks and depending on the results, they'll do another treatment followed by 1 more after that. We are looking at late May - Early June hopefully to wrap up the chemo. The doc is very optimistic about the impact of the treatment.

Finally, the broken leg. We went to the ortho yesterday. He's able to put full weight on it now!!! Yes!!!! That means he can start meaningful PT, walking with a walker, and most of all we can start planning to get him out of the rehab center. He'll go to a VRBO back with his sweetie just down the road from Monty and me. We'll rally with them to get them through these treatments and then hopefully back to their old Kentucky Home by early June.

They'll come back down to Tampa for the Hill Family Reunion that Monty and I are hosting. Whew. This damn family man. Crazy, but Lord help me...I love them so much.

I want to say a special thanks to John Roberts, Barry and Linda Hicks, and Ms Vicki Ingram for all the help with Mom and Dad.

Thanks to Stacey Donahue, our Rooftop Angel and my buddy Eric and my pal Chris for coming to spend time with Dad.

Finally, thanks to my brother Travis for getting over here from Australia. And of course my bride Monty, she's amazing and such a big heart.

Thank you all again for all the prayers and well-wishes. I'll keep you all posted as we get the woodsman ready for the next phase of healing and Mrs Anita back on her feet.
We love you all dearly.
Stay strong out there, Life is short.
Best,
Scott Mann
