Journal entry by Jeff Jones —
9:30 pm - We have been at Medical City Dallas for only four days and a lot has happened. Rex has really made some great strides both on his own and with his therapists Marc, Travis, Brian and Hannah. Physically, Rex is back to normal. He is walking, exercising and balancing as well as ever. He has had visitors and his verbal skills are improving to the point that everyone can understand him now. He still talks slowly, and struggles a little but it's getting better. Travis brought him a guitar on Monday and Rex tentatively started playing his jazz chords and really lit up. He was really worried that he wouldn't be able to play. He has done so well that the therapists and the doctor feel that he should not be hospitalized any longer and are discharging him tomorrow. We are looking for referrals for outpatient speech therapy. He still has some trouble swallowing thin liquids, but is fine with everything else. Things are moving fast.
I had breakfast with Rex this morning then went to work, resuming my normal routine. Melissa is still staying with Rex for the most part, as she has throughout this whole experience. As all of this seems to be resolving we are forever changed by the grace of God.
Thank you all for your prayers and support as we continue this journey.
