Rev. Donald’s Story

Site created on February 5, 2019

Welcome to the CaringBridge website for Rev. Donald Illian. We will try to keep everyone updated as time goes on with what is happening with Dad. While at the Mayo Clinic on February 4th and 5th, Don was diagnosed with Prostate cancer, which has metastasized into his lymphatic system and into his bones. He is not in pain at this time and tells us that he "feels fine" but we know that there will be a tough road ahead.

We give glory to our Father in Heaven for granting us mercy and loving us dearly. We pray that He helps us understand his plan, accept it with praise and adoration to His name, and that He continues to help us during this difficult time.

The following is a message from my Mom, Kathy Illian:

“We can never thank Immanuel Lutheran Church enough for all the preparation and effort put in to Pastor Illian’s funeral. It was amazing and we wanted to thank all of you for everything that was done to make it all happen. The food that was provided was excellent and we want to thank everyone who helped prepare and serve it.  Also, we want to thank the choir and Linda Gomez for leading it. That hymn was one of Pastor Illian’s favorites and we know that he would’ve enjoyed it.  Thank you to the three organists who helped accompany the service.  It was beautiful!

I know my husband would have been in awe of all the people who were at the visitation on Friday evening as well as all the people in attendance at the funeral.  He was a very humble man and I know he would’ve been speechless at the number of people who expressed their condolences and all showed their support by being at the funeral.

Pastor Kapanka had a phenomenal sermon and the message helped us in so many ways. We were also very thankful that Pastor Q was able to share the his faith message with us.  It was such a powerful way of showing how God moves through us.  To God be the glory!!!

My three sons and I, as well as the entire family, will miss my husband immensely.  I know that Pastor Illian dearly loved Pastor Kapanka and the Immanuel congregation with all his heart, but he was more than ready to be with his Heavenly Father.  We are so appreciative of the time that we had with him and we look forward to meeting him once again when we reach our final destination and are with our Lord and Savior.  Again, thank you and God Bless!”
