Been home for two months now. The time has flown by! Trying to make your home suitable for someone bound to a wheelchair is a lot of work. I'll have had loads of help getting this space more livable, but living it is something else. It stressed me out initially, but now that I have been here in my condition, I have gotten more comfortable. Just reconfiguring the kitchen and figuring out how to cook from 2 ½ ft lower has been a part time job. And the byproduct has been an appreciation for some of what it takes to live a life in a wheelchair. Some of it, certainly not all of it. A couple of weeks ago I was told that the next time I leave the office of my prosthetic technician, it will be with my new artificial right leg! So excited! The fitting with the molded plastic and the modifications went quickly and smoothly. Areas that rubbed against the hard plastic were “mapped” and soft foam will replace them. I will return after some time with the leg to make modifications if needed in a year or so. In the meantime, physical and occupational therapy continues. Wow. This is really happening...
