Renee’s Story

Site created on March 3, 2022

Most of you know Renee's story, but we'll summarize it here.  In February of 2013 Renee was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer and had radiation treatment and a lumpectomy.  Then in November 2018, Renee got the  diagnosis of a second primary cancer of Stage 4 non-small cell lung cancer.  She approached this news like she attacked so much in her life - with lots of information and a plan.  Her cancer had the EGFR mutation that lined up with a fairly new targeted therapy drug treatment which she started right away.  That treatment worked at keeping the cancer from advancing for about 24 months.  Renee also used this time to get her body as healthy as she could, with exercise, clean eating and alternative therapies.  Unfortunately, the cancer kept progressing.  Renee continued to face it with everything and anything she could:  radiation, surgery, a drug trial, holistic medicine, natural remedies, and eventually chemotherapy.  Throughout this time, she showed us all her humor, persistence, stubbornness, love and incredible, unwavering faith.  In February 2022, she got the news that the cancer had spread to her spinal fluid, so she and Paul made the difficult decision to honor her desire for her to come home so she could spend time with family and loved ones.
