Reise’s Story

Site created on October 8, 2023

Reise and Dillon have been best friends since elementary school.
They share a rental property in the county, that has two houses on it.
Reise and his brother Cody live in one house.
Dillon and his girlfriend Dani live in the other.
Reise, Dillon Schmidt and another friend Bryan Garlo had been working outside, building a new deer hunting blind.
Reise loves to hunt, fish and trap anything and everything he can.
He has an amazing 2 yr old German Shorthair Pointer, Sage, who is almost too smart for her own good!
Reise decided he was going to bed, so he headed towards his house.
20’ from his front door, there is a huge Ash Tree.
One of their friends is an Arborist, who has taken pictures and measurements of this tree. He believes that this tree is possibly the largest Ash Tree in Mn.
Tuesday night, 10/3/2023, a storm rolled through the area, with some very high winds.
A huge limb broke off that Ash tree, falling approximately 3 stories down on top of Reise.
Dillon could hear Sage barking, so he walked into Reise’s House saying,”you gonna leave your dog out all night?”
Reise didn’t answer and Dillon didn’t see him in there, so he headed back outside.
Stepping out of the house, he could see the limb down and Sage standing right over Reise, barking.
He was unconscious.
Dillon and Bryan kept him laying still and called EMS.
Once Reise was en route to the hospital, Dillon looked at the tree.
The limb had come down right on top of a cooler, which was right at the top of Reise’s head.
Without that cooler, the limb would have come down directly on his head.
Such a freak, random accident!
It’s so hard to wrap your head around!
But there are also a few unbelievable miracles there that saved his life!

Reise has been doing great!!!! He stayed with us and continued pt and ot. He is now done with ot but is still doing PT in Rochester 2 times a week.  Reise and Sage moved  back to his place on Christmas Day.  He is walking with a cane.  Also he is starting to take the neck brace off. Week 1 he takes it off an hour in the morning and hour at night. Then week 2 he does it for 2 hours each and so on.  It is just amazing what this kid has done. I thank God every day.
