Reegan’s Story

Site created on September 10, 2023

Thought I would create this site to help Tracie and Jerry communicate what’s going on with Reegs, without feeling bad about forgetting someone.

Many of you may know that Reegan was hospitalized last week with an E. Coli infection that causes Hemytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS) and has a 20% risk of accompanying kidney failure.

At this time, her medical team is working hard to care for her body that is fighting this HUS disease.   Reegan and the rest of the Bents’ family are asking for prayer warriors to lift them up during this difficult time!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Tracie Bents

Hello!  I again want to say a huge thanks to everyone for all the prayers and support as they continue to work!

We had another appointment today and once again we walked out feeling positive, relieved and BLESSED!

First update is a huge congrats to our West Fargo Golf Team who all played their hearts out and qualified for the State Tournament!  The team has shown nothing but strength, dedication and support to Reegan and they are beyond excited to be heading back to Grand Forks as a Team next week!  Reegan was not able to use a medical cart at EDC on Monday, but with a lot of love and support from other coaches, parents, and teams in our District, she pushed through and conquered 18 holes with her Team right next to her!  💚⛳️

Today we did have an appointment and as healthy and good as she looks, she is still anemic and told to LISTEN TO YOUR body. Sleep and rest when needed. Her platelets look amazing and stable, as well as the trending graphs!  Her hemoglobin was not quite where we want it but is going in the right direction, but shows why she is still anemic and needs to remember her body is healing. We also were told the next 3 months will explain a lot of how long term effects will go.  Many kids who have HUS come out of it in moderate to extreme kidney loss-we are on the mild to moderate which is a HUGE bonus to her!! YEA!! Again, prayers are so amazing and all of this is proof of the strength and work they do-so thank you!!! ❤️ We will continue to watch labs and tests for the next 3 months to see if her kidneys heal the way they should. There is a chance of scarring and could cause other issues down the road in life. We didn’t go into much detail of “what” could happen as right now, even though some things show scarring, we have 3 months to continue and pray for complete healing.

I have learned a lot about HUS and how quickly it can harm internal organs for doctors to do their magic when it’s over- we are in a very positive position that she can still walk out of this without any long term effects and continue to Thank God every day to be where we are!!  We have a strong team of doctors who are knowledgeable and supportive with every step!!

Today we are feeling Blessed and inspired by our community of friends who have given up time and energy to keep her in your prayers, thoughts, and love!

Our words can not express our gratitude to each and everyone of you and your continued cheering her on during this unexpected journey.  We for sure will continue to smile as we feel all the prayers, feel extremely BLESSED and loved by everyon!

Enjoy this still beautiful Fall weather and your evening,
The Bents Family💕❤️
