Journal entry by Jackie Shapaker —
Rebecca Nelles had a serious fall off a young horse earlier this week resulting in a fractured and dislocated C5 as well as a vertebral artery dissection. The injuries resulted in emergency surgery to stabilize her neck, several scans to monitor the artery, and a week in the hospital with the first three days being in the ICU. Miraculously, Rebecca’s long-term prognosis is good and a full recovery is expected after what will be a long road of physical therapy and rehab.
While Rebecca is recovering, she will need to take a break from her training business, Rebecca Nelles Dressage, LLC, and her very hands-on role as manager at Hidden Spring Farm. On top of everything, Rebecca's fiance Mark is recovering from shoulder surgery. We are asking all that know her, as well as the horse community, to help a much-loved horsewoman and friend in a time of need.
