Journal

I posted the below to Facebook on Mother’s Day, so below the line many of you may have already read. This does reach different people, so I felt it was the other place I should put it.

It seems wrong to not say anything on Mothers Day to the amazing network that held the McLains together for over a year now. It’s been 7 months since Rebecca Hirchert McLain departed, about 9 since things took a noticeable turn, and she has been missed every day since. I remember saying at her memorial that I’ll love her forever, but I want to recognize that I am but one of many that will do so.

One of the big themes I’ve been leaning into in the past few months, since the start of Lent, has been one of renewal and the rebirth that happens both in nature and in my faith each year at this time. I have found the spring to be particularly beautiful given how dark the fall and winter were. Could be because I bought an awesome jeep, but probably not just that. 😉

One passage I draw inspiration from is 2 Samuel 12 (focus on verses 23 and 24), which is how David handled the death of his son both before when he knew and after. I encourage those of you still in shock and mourning to soak in that direction from God; it’s in The Bible for reason. For me, it ultimately means life is for the living and it’s very, very short.

I love you all, truly. Thank you.
