Ray’s Story

Site created on April 21, 2018

I’ve known Ray and Elva Sais for twenty five years. We each raised three boys and were actually neighbors for several years. The one thing that has kept us close for so many years is our mutual love and ministry to Christ Jesus. Although they moved to Killeen, Texas and we see on another rarely, we just pick up where we left off. Ray’s wife, Elva began having some rare and painful symptoms years ago which became diagnosed as fibromyalgia. If you have this disease or know a loved one who has it, you know it’s a horrible mixed bag of ailments that take turns messing with your body. As Elva has gone deeper into her cycle of remission and flaring Ray has always been by her side. Between Ray’s former illness and a series of continuous medical bills they were living a modest life. You see they didn’t have any retirement which meant that Ray, already in his seventies, would have to work as long as he could in order for them to survive financially. Things were tenuous at best but when we went up to seek medical advice in the area they were the first to invite us to use their home as a hub for our medical pursuits. They have always been the kind of people to reach out and share whatever they had even if it was little. A few months ago things took a much more serious turn. Ray was rushed to the hospital with a stroke. He rallied and came back strong while he praised God for His healing. Several hospital visits later and continued seizures prompted the doctors to investigate further, finally getting his complete diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. He has a stage four malignant glioma and the doctors say he has less than a year. Typically, as soon as Ray heard this he asked Elva to get some pastors over to lay hands on him and pray for healing! He accepts whatever the Lord wills but would love to spend more time with his family and precious grandchildren. Now that Ray can no longer work Elva has been applying for help, to no avail. Ray is in the hospital and Elva stays with him day and night. They have sold whatever belongings they could do without but are now placing their finances back into God’s hands. I explore you to seek your hearts and give whatever you can to help this family with money for food, paying bills, and whatever necessities may occur. Things can change in the blink of an eye and as I lay here recovering from my recent surgery my heart breaks for my friends. God bless you❤️ (https://www.gofundme.com/5fvgn3c#) (https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=Ray+Sais&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.gofundme.com%2F5fvgn3c%3Fpc%3Dtw_dn_cpgnsharemore_r%26rcid%3Dr01-152466715944-12968357e1ee4300)

Journal entry by Elva Sais

It has been a long challenging season of life. To some, 4 months seems to be a blink of an eye. To others like Ray and I, it has been a long season of life that all runs together blurring in our memories. Details are difficult to remember.  People now realize that we need help. But most of all, I realize it. Family from both sides have rallied around my Mom, family,  and I to help us keep Ray safe in our home. Hospice is still working on helping him sleep.  He is still creative and wants to continue doing his hobbies, yet doesn't have the cognitive nor physical ability to do them.  He is extremely strong physically but has no depth perception. It is hard on him.  He prays to God in the middle of the night and through the day as everything confuses him. But no confusion with our God! God is not letting him forget that he is His!  I'm so grateful that Ray's Faithful is stronger than the illness!  Thank you for all of your varied kinds of love and support. All is much needed and looked upon as great blessings! Love you all! Most have directly mailed your caring thoughts and gifts. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts from all of my family!❤
