Randy’s Story

Site created on November 6, 2021

In  September of 2010, Randy's kidneys unexpectedly failed. Seven months later, he received a kidney from his wife, Melanie. On October 9, 2021, Randy's ankles were swollen, a sign of kidney problems. Lab tests showed significant deterioration in kidney function. Within three weeks, he was on dialysis. He hopes to have another kidney transplant in order to continue serving with his family as a missionary in Oaxaca, Mexico.

We are currently living in Pennsylvania while we wait for a compatible kidney to become available for Randy (or until God heals him).

Journal entry by Randy Umble

Dear praying friends,

The past month and a half has gone by quickly for our family. We thank God for his faithfulness and presence as we continue to walk with him. I'm thankful to report that my new kidney is working well, and I have good health. I no longer need to see the medical team weekly; I see a doctor monthly now. Instead of having blood drawn for labs twice a week, it's just once a week now.

Because my kidney function is stable, I am not planning to write any more updates on this CaringBridge site.  Thank you so much for your prayers for my family and me. As God brings us to mind, keep praying that we would glorify him with our lives. Our plan is to return to Mexico to continue working with Oaxaca Christian School, but we don't know when that will be. When I had my first kidney transplant about 12 years ago, we needed to wait six months before we were given the okay to return to Ecuador. Because this is my second transplant, I doubt it would be any sooner than that. Please pray that God would help us make wise decisions.

Thank you!
