Journal entry by Eileen Simpson —
Hello everyone! I wanted to share an update on Randy's progress. He's doing remarkably well at home, steadily regaining his strength. Currently, he's undergoing physical therapy three times a week and speech therapy once a week, both of which are proving beneficial. With the aid of a cane, he's now able to walk short distances, and for longer distances, he's using a walker.
Additionally, Randy is undergoing ESTIM treatment to bolster his neck muscles, with the hope of restoring his ability to swallow. While the exact cause—whether neurological or muscular—is still uncertain, the focus remains on rehabilitation. If it's neurological, unfortunately, options may be limited, but if it's muscular, there's optimism that he can regain swallowing function over time.
It's important to note that this is a gradual process, requiring patience and perseverance. Currently, Randy is receiving nutrition through a PEG tube in his stomach as we continue to monitor his progress and explore further avenues for his recovery.
