Isla Helen’s Story

Site created on December 6, 2021

Saturday (12/5/2021) our precious Isla Helen (her middle name means light) was diagnosed with HUS (Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome), a serious complication from E. Coli poisoning. Randy and Rachael are in the ICU with sweet Isla.  We are praying for a miracle, that she will fully recover. Isla Helen is a gift from God.

May the God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Romans 15:13

Journal entry by Stephanie Stuck

Good afternoon, prayer warriors!

Yesterday as Isla got in the car she started to cry. The thought of having to go get poked was hard. Thankfully, Rosie joined Isla yesterday and was a wonderful comforter.  Anyone who knows Rosie knows that God has given her a special gift of caring and comforting people. By the time Randy parked the car at the doctor's office, Isla took a breath and said, "I'm ready".

For over a year, Isla's kidneys have held steady. There has been no improvement, which is what the doctor said would happen. She said that once the kidneys are damaged, they will not improve, but hopefully hold steady.  We have rejoiced and been thankful for each appointment where they are holding steady....but have been praying with all of you for improvement and complete healing.

Yesterday, God blessed and overwhelmed us with the bloodwork showing improvement!!  YES, the kidneys went from a .6 CR to a .5 CR.  Isla's BUN was down and her eGFR number was up....ALL miracles! The doctor was stunned and said this doesn't happen.  Not only had the kidneys shown improvement, but Isla is growing and gained 2 pounds!!! ...and with all that the kidneys are still improving. The doctor said Isla is now at stage 2 kidney failure which is up from where she was at stage 3. God is GREAT!

Last night while talking about the doctor's visit and telling everyone about her favorite lab nurse, Isla told everyone that they said she was "getting better".  She is one smart cookie. Each time she is talking, telling stories, singing....we are reminded of the answer prayer for her brain. We had no idea how much damage her brain would have after her seizures and coding that happened to her. God is GREAT!

Over the next few weeks, the doctor has asked to make some changes with formula feeds and liquids to see how the kidneys handle the change.  Randy and Rachael are continuing to pray about the reconnect surgery. There is so much to consider, lots of prayers would be appreciated.

We never know what tomorrow holds, so we celebrate BIG what we can today!  We are so thankful that God is healing Isla!

Psalm 118:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Thank you all for praying. Randy, Rachael, Rosie, and Isla all felt your prayers yesterday and everyday.
