Welcome to Ralph’s CaringBridge Site
Sign In to Show Your SupportIt's hard to express what this year – and everyone on CaringBridge (and elsewhere) who have written to me and about me – mean to me, but I'm going to try. One year ago my heart stopped, without giving me any warning other than some nausea. I have no recollection of that event or the next month or so, and it has been especially valuable to read the CaringBridge entries from that time. It has given me multiple perspectives on what was going on then.
It's always hard for suspicious New Yorkers' minds to accept praise and compliments, but the outpouring of love from people I've known over many decades and many cities is hard to ignore. In the words of Sally Field, "you like me!" I count myself extremely lucky to have had such wonderful family, friends, and colleagues over the years. I'm also deeply grateful that none of you fit into only one of those categories: my friends are honorary family members and my colleagues are friends.
Obviously I am most especially grateful to Susan for her ongoing love and affection and, of course, for her untrained (but clearly highly effective) CPR efforts. She's a life saver in more ways than one. Those of you who have interacted with her over this year know how special she is.
Also, deep thanks to all my medical friends who pitched in and provided advice over the many weeks of my hospitalization.
Now, for the medical wrap-up. With the exception of a single coronary artery (now held wide open by a blessed stent), my angiogram shows virtually no coronary artery disease. My GI symptoms have continued to gradually subside, and my weight is very nearly back to baseline. I'm looking forward to many more years surrounded by all of my dear family, friends and colleagues.
Much love,
Ralph
