On 16 March 2022, Rachel was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Synovial Sarcoma, a rare cancer that originated from a tumor in her leg and had already spread to her lungs.
The causes of Synovial Sarcoma are largely unknown.
The road to recovery will be a tough one. Chemotherapy may not be enough on its own. Luckily, Rachel's oncologist is hopeful that some Clinical Trials may offer more hope after Rachels first 5 or 6 cycles of Chemo are completed.
Chemo Regiment:
The general pattern of Rachel's AIM Chemo runs in 21 day cycles: 1 week of chemotherapy treatment, followed by 2 weeks of rest/check up appointments. Then the cycle starts again with another week of treatment.
- The first chemo regiment will be inpatient (hospital downtown), but follow on treatments may be outpatient (local clinic)
- Hospital Visiting Hours are 11am - 6pm
- The second week (first recovery week) is often rough, whereas the 3rd week Rachel might have more energy.

- During downtime, food and/or cleaning is appreciated
- Visitors should wear a mask
- If you are sick, do not visit as Chemo compromises the immune system
Please be considerate:
- Rachel might not always want company to talk to and may need alone time
- Rachel wants to feel normal as much as possible; please respect her boundaries
- It can be tiring for a cancer patient to repeat information and help many people process the same news over and over. This is not a hard and fast rule, please just consider this possibility and use your best judgement if/when reaching out
