Journal entry by Rachel Stanton

Today we saw the surgeon, Dr. Bumpers for a follow-up eight days after surgery. He reviewed that he removed all of the cancer, both the tumor and two axillary lymph nodes which had had cancerous cells. He also removed 20 other lymph nodes under my armpit as well. They do this as a precautionary measure even though no cancer was detected in the nodes down the line from the first two.

He did not remove the port today, as it was still draining more than he would like. I guess trying to clean the soggy basement was doing “too much”. 🤷‍♀️

Next step: See Dr. Rana, the oncologist. Dr. Bumpers said he will, most likely  have me do chemotherapy and radiation since it had spread to the lymph nodes. We’ll see!
