Journal entry by Rachel List —
Hi everyone!
I wanted to provide you all an update about how treatment went yesterday. I had the whole body scan (using a gamma camera) done yesterday morning. The scan revealed a very small section in my neck that contained cancer cells. This was likely right around where the lymph nodes were showing infection at the time of surgery. Because there was such a small amount of cancer, the radiologists only administered 30mc of the radioactive iodine which is one of the smallest doses they give. With papillary thyroid cancer they can give up to 150mc so overall that was really good news. Although I may still experience some short term symptoms, long term risks are very very unlikely because it is such a small dose. I am still pretty tired because of the adjustments made to my thyroid stimulating hormone levels for treatment and am experiencing some soreness in my throat and neck which is typical. Overall, we are so incredibly thankful for the way the Lord has answered prayer. Thank you so much to you all for your prayers and support. I will have a follow up appointment on Monday to ensure that those cancer cells have absorbed the radiation. I will keep you updated on how that goes next week.
Always so much love for you all,
Rachel
