Rachel’s Story

Site created on November 30, 2022

**To clarify, if you make a tribute donation, that does not go to Rachel, it goes to the CaringBridge website. Also, there is no GoFundMe account set up.

Rachel’s goal is to change her real birthday of October 28th to December 6th. When you’ve received a stem cell transplant, you get to have a “re-birthday,” and on December 6th, she will receive her stem cell transplant for myelofibrosis—an uncommon bone marrow cancer. It’s one of those relatively obscure myeloproliferative disorders few people know about, so many fail to understand you’re sick. It’s particularly uncommon for people in Rachel’s age group, since most people are diagnosed after the age of 60. As far as the details of Rachel’s story, she’s a co-author here, so she may have an opportunity to add those details; otherwise, I’ll put them together in journal entries.

Journal entry by Deb Marshall

After many ups and downs over the past few weeks—unstable bloodwork, dehydration, lowering platelets, transfusions, to name just a few—Rachel’s port was removed last Monday. She had bloodwork done, as usual, and, surprisingly, her numbers were all within normal range, although she is anemic! When she saw her oncologist, he said her JAK2 mutations are still at 1%, so she is not in remission, but her life expectancy is now at 17+ years!! She returns to see her regular oncologist on March 9th. This is miraculous news and we are tremendously grateful for your prayerful support throughout this very trying ordeal.
