Journal entry by Rachel Harris —
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve updated so I thought I’d share the latest. Tomorrow I’m scheduled to fly back to Boston. Thursday I’ll undergo “the stent removal” of my right main bronchus at BIDMC. There’s a lot of mixed feeling relating to this surgery. Last week I had an unexpected emergency room visit due to a lot of chest congestion and pain. A cat scan was performed at Hershey Med they determined that there were now more/new pockets of free air inside my chest. This leading to the conclusion that the stent is no longer helping in fact maybe causing more problems. The pulmonary team highly thinks the fistulas reopened or a new one developed. Contacts were made with Boston and they determined it was too risky for Hershey drs to attempt the stent removal. So this the reason I’m going back to Boston. Initially I was stubborn and bull-headed about the “push around” but over the past few days I’ve convinced myself that Boston perhaps was my best and only option.
My sisterinlaw Ruby will be flying with me as my advocate. I’m thankful for the support of family and caring friends. This journey seems endless and sometimes so frustrating. It has made me both stronger and more stubborn😌. My prayer is that I’ll soon be enjoying a new normal and be given full health.
Ill try to update as I can. Meanwhile keep us in your prayers. Especially my daughter as she once again will be without me for a few days.
