Journal

Now that I’ve healed up well from my last surgery, we are getting back to our regularly scheduled program. I’ve begun physical therapy and am happy to say I’ve made a few advances that show improvement (like being able to cross my left foot across my right thigh to put my shoe on!). And while I’ve progressed in some ways, I’ve taken a step backwards (or maybe sideways) in others. I tried walking sticks during PT in hopes that I could use them for our beach trip in late June. No such luck. I expended all of my energy just trying to walk a few feet back and forth. It’s not realistic or safe for now, but I had been so hopeful because I had successfully used them earlier this year (pre-surgery).

This journey is nothing if not ever-changing.

Chris and I have had rare, back-to-back galas to attend over the last couple of weeks. Always fun to dress up and be on the arm of this handsome fellow. Now, I’ve had my fill for the year. Ha!

Earlier this week, Chris and I had our date day to Cumming, GA to see Dr. Reimer (Orthopedic Surgeon) and later enjoyed our fav sushi spot, Izumi. Soooooo good!!!

My pelvic X-ray looked good and he was happy with my progress. Actually, he said I exceeded his expectations with the latest surgery. We did talk about path forward, recognizing bacteria begins evolving the moment I start taking an antibiotic. I asked if I should just start mentally preparing for a surgical wash out of some sort every few months. The answer? Maybe. It really all depends on me.

We are going to keep praying and believing that this infection will just be gone. My God works all things together for our good and His glory! 🙌🏻

I’ve been pretty tired lately, and we expect that is because of my low blood counts. Dr. Reimer expects that is due to Myelosuppression, also known as bone marrow suppression, which can occur as a result of chemotherapy.  It is a decrease in bone marrow activity that results in reduced production of red blood cells.

That would explain it. We will see what the Hematologist says in June.

My next big appointment is May 29 back at Emory Winship Cancer Center for my 3-month checkup. I’ll have my annual PET scan, CT scans with and without contrast of my chest, abdomen, and pelvis. I’ll also have bloodwork too. Last, but not least, I meet with my Oncologist, Dr. Read. It’s a long day, but I love that I don’t have to go home and wait on results because he will have them in-hand for my appointment.

I’ve been a little bit of everywhere emotionally as well…crying if someone looks at me odd, forgetting everything, getting confused with words/names. I recognize some of this may be a product of turning 46, still some I still claim as “chemo brain”.

Something great that makes me giggle like a schoolgirl is the way Chris now lifts me into our big truck. If you see it, you’ll know why. I love it! 🥰

Speaking of love, Chris and I are counting down to our 25th wedding anniversary. Crazy. We both feel so blessed to have met when we were 15 and have grown up together.  ❤️

Please help me lift up some very dear friends in prayer for healing and peace. Toccora, Beverly, Jill, Mark, Nancy, Amy, Beth, Chris, Michelle, Jacob, and unspoken. Please also remember our friend Chris as his love Sybil has been eternally healed and gone home.

All my love. ❤️
