Sharon’s Story

Site created on April 14, 2020

This webpage was created for Sharon Hemsath. As many of you have already heard, our mom was diagnosed with lung cancer. Unfortunately, by the time it was diagnosed, it had metastasized to her brain. The good news is that mom is a fighter. She is one of the strongest people that we know, and she has already begun the treatment to battle the cancer. Through this website, we are going to update you on her progress and offer everyone an opportunity to send a message to Mom. We are most appreciative of all of the thoughts and prayers that have already been sent her way, and we are asking everyone to continue to keep her in your prayers.  We love you and we thank you for all of your concern.

Journal entry by Mike Hemsath

As many of you I’m sure have heard, Mom lost her brave battle with cancer this Wednesday, January 27 just before 8p. While we all miss her terribly, we feel very blessed that God took her to Heaven very peacefully. Mom has been an absolute inspiration since her diagnosis. While she was well aware that it would be difficult to beat this horrible disease, she fought like crazy and never once asked “why me?”. She handled her treatments with grace and perseverance and was understanding when we had to make the excruciating decision to put her in the care of Hospice.

By the way, I only describe it as excruciating because we all understood what that decision meant without a miracle. The wonderful people of St. Elizabeth Hospice are truly “angels on Earth” and provided Mom with the best care that we could have ever hoped for. Thanks so much to all of the wonderful individuals at St. E Hospice who cared for Mom and provided the necessary support to Dad, Jeff and me and our family as we went through this unimaginable ordeal.

We would also like to thank Missy, Nam and the other wonderful caregivers from Assisting Hands and Family Watch who cared for Mom on a daily basis since we brought her home for good in September. They are a also “angels on Earth” and made this process very manageable for Mom.

Finally, we want to thank each and every one of you for your love and support during this very difficult process. We simply could not have made it through without all of you. We were all inspired and humbled by all of the care and support you all provided to both Mom and all of us. It definitely “takes a village” to get through something like this and you all provided the best “village” we could have ever hoped for.

Please continue to keep the memory of Mom strong like we will. She was the best wife, Mom, grandmother, sister and friend that we could ever hoped for. She will be greatly missed but never forgotten . The joy she brought to everyone she came across will live on forever. She will be looking down on all of us with a big smile as she enjoys her new life in Heaven.

God Bless you all!!

Love,

The Hemsath Family
