It's been a bit.  Mom's been at the Township Senior Living since October 2021 and although she never made it back to baseline, and certainly didn't like not being able to drive, she has still been active, making new friends and loving her grandbabies and great-grandbabies.  I've even taken her to Texas for a family reunion, and several trips to Downstream and Silver Dollar City.  She always looks forward to getting a manicure or going out for a drive and a milk shake.

On Thursday, September 28th, mom started feeling not so good. They took a specimen to test for a UTI but told us it would take three days to get the results back because assisted living sends them out to a lab. By Sunday Quay and I decided to take her to urgent care. We got a script for antibiotics but that night the nurse called. Mom’s pulse was high and her oxygen was low. They called an ambulance and by the time I got there the fire department and an ambulance was there and they had her on oxygen. She was admitted to Mercy. She had a serious UTI and had a positive blood culture as well. She was placed on an IV for antibiotics which meant she couldn't go back to her assisted living.  To make matters worse, her midline was infiltrated twice and that only contributed to her infection and pain.

On October 13th she was transferred to Quail Creek Skilled Nursing. It has been a very slow recovery and she is always fatiqued after a morning of physical, occupational and speech therapy. There is still some brain fog from the UTI and we aren't certain where she will land after all this. Mom's got a third midline IV due to infiltration. She's achey and she's having a hard time even standing with assistance.  She was having 1 step forward, 2 steps back.  She had another UTI and we think she had another TIA.

On November 8th, Quay and I made the decision to take Mom out of the skilled nursing facility and return her to her apartment at The Township Senior Living under the care of hospice. Quay tells me she received a queen’s welcome upon arrival.  She is happy to be home, and is much more comfy.  We weren't going to tell her about hospice, but so many people have said it at this point I don't think it's much of a secret, although she doen't seem to to attach any negative emotions to it.  She doesn't have her phone any more, so if you want to leave her a message, please do, and I'l read them to her.  Also, if you'd like to visit, let me know and I can walk you through how to visit.
