Maureen’s Story

Site created on January 8, 2023

Hello dear friends and family, we are using this site to share updates to you all about Maureen as we navigate a challenging time with her health. She can use all the love and prayers you’re able to provide.

We brought Maureen to the ER at CHI Creighton University Medical Center - Bergan Mercy last week. We had been noticing she wasn’t herself for a little bit now, not being able to come to the correct words easily and just seeming generally off. It's been a whirlwind of trying to figure out what is going on. Thus far, they have identified an abnormality on the left frontal lobe of her brain.  Additionally,  she had a heart attack after she was  admitted to the hospital. She had a cardiac cath procedure which identified three blocked arteries. A true blessing that we were already in the hospital when the heart attack occurred.

We are working with a team of neurologists to diagnose what is causing her brain abnormality and speech aphasia; a team of cardiologists is working to determine the best path for treating her heart condition.

Maureen is awake, conversational, and fully aware of all that is going on. She is not in pain or feeling sick at this time.

We will share updates in the journals below as we learn our next steps to get Maureen on the path forward. Please feel free to share with anyone you know that would like to pray and send positive wishes for Maureen. Thank you for loving and supporting our family.

Love, Ron, Molly and Erin, David and Steven, along with Maureen’s cherished grandkids, Jack, Madeline, and baby Ronnie.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Molly Belieu

Hello friends and family,
We have been in Bethesda, Maryland since Monday at the National Institutes of Health. Mom had blood work, an MRI, and a spinal tap, which will help to determine her best course of treatment for her. Dr. Cortese is the primary neurologist on this study which specifically studies PML. She hopes to have a better understanding of mom’s particular case, including what has affected her overall immunity suppression, which allowed the JC virus to cause the PML. We have an appointment tomorrow morning to learn more about her results and any next steps. This visit has been a lot for mom with all the testing she has done many times before. But she continues to be superwoman every step of the way. Mom was so excited to even be able to spend time with her nephew Eddie who lives in DC. As always, we thank you all for your continued Iove and support.
Love,
Ron, Molly & Erin, David & Steven, Jack, Madeline & Baby Ronnie
