Journal entry by Kathryn Furnal

Pokey has made tremendous progress in physical therapy! He will "graduate" from skilled nursing care this week and transition to extended stay care at the Carlisle Care Center.

Chris had a brief site visit to his old apartment last week to assess his mobility. He was thrilled to see his place and show off his apartment to his physical therapists! While he was physically able to maneuver around his home, he and his medical team and his family agreed that his oxygen and other health needs are now too great for him to manage by himself.

Unfortunately, he is not yet eligible for assisted living in Carlisle due to his age. He did not want to seek housing in a facility outside of Carlisle. In less than two years when Chris turns 65, he plans to move into an apartment in the assisted living wing.

The Carlisle Care Center had been closed to visitors for a time, but just opened back up yesterday. Pokey loves to have visitors! Feel free to contact the care center at 515-989-0871 to schedule a visit.

If you're not comfortable going inside, you can currently visit him through his window or at least drive by and wave at him. He watches everyone coming and going and if he knows your vehicle, he'll see you coming down the road! His room is on the front side of the care center just two windows to the left of the main entrance. Staff put a sign in his window to direct you. He will be moving from this room Friday, November 19th.

As always, you can call Pokey at 515-732-5750. His new mobile flip phone isn't far from him unless he's in physical therapy or having a meal in the dining room.
