Jackie’s Story

Site created on September 5, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of encouragement.   Jackie was diagnosed on Thursday September 2nd with Pyriform Sinus Squamous Cell Carcinoma (Throat Cancer).  The Doctor is saying that the mass looks to be contained, but we won’t know for sure until the CT Scan can be done to see exactly what’s going on.  With this weekend being a holiday week, she probably will not get the appointment to have the CT done until Tuesday.   Jackie’s doctor in Columbia, SC has referred her to the MCG in Georgia.   This is where jackie will go for the test,  talk to the Surgeon and have surgery.  The CT will determine the fate of what happens.  If the mass is contained, surgery to remove the mass and she will go on as before.  If there are other areas involved, she might have to go through Chemo and /or radiation after Surgery.   Right now, her voice gets tried when she talks a lot.  So, no phone calls right now.   She has asked that everyone text (if you want to reach her). Feel free to call me (Susan- Jackie’s sister) at 803-553-2649 or you can text her.  If this isn’t enough news to handle, Peter tested positive for Covid this morning.  He is staying upstairs and Jackie is downstairs.  Prayers are needed for Peter to recover quickly from this nasty virus.  If you didn’t notice, the title of Jackie’s page is 3:33 pm Prayers for Jackie.  There is a reason… Jackie has this thing with numbers and on Thursday she received the call from her doctor at 3:33 pm.  So,  I would like to ask everyone to say a prayer at 3:33 pm everyday through this journey.   I will continue to update Jackie’s journey  as I know  the details. Thank you for visiting and please leave messages, pictures, verses, encouragement on here for Jackie to read.

Journal entry by Susan Kleber

Today, Peter and I went to Augusta University Medical Center for follow up with the ENT surgeon.  He says the pathology was clear, which means that they got the tumor out down to good, healthy tissue.  He will present my case to the tumor board on Thursday.  He thinks that they will not require me to do radiation, and he is recommending that I have a laryngoscopy 1-2 times this year.  They will put me to sleep and do a good look in there.  Then, after this, I will be followed closely for 5 years.  The prognosis is great! He really does not think I will see this tumor reoccur. Wow and praise God!  I am healing nicely, and will see my throat return to “normal” in a couple of weeks.  I will NEVER be able to thank my friends and family enough for the prayers, love, meals, flowers and support.  Thank you all so much! I have felt the hand of God every step of the way.
