The King Family

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sydney King

Good morning everyone!

I am proud to announce that my mother was released from in-patient rehab (IPR) today and she is headed home! After months of stressing about the number of days she was expected to receive at IPR, we are happy to announce that she received almost 30 days, which is a lot!

The rehab has been so diligent in her therapy. She is already working on standing (with the use of a handrail), and that is incredible! We hope her being home will be a big self-motivational push and get her in a good headspace to continue working hard with her therapies.

This journey home will most likely be emotional and possibly overwhelming for her considering she hasn't been home in over 190 days, so we are taking caution in her mental well-being with regards to visitors right now. We want her to be comfortable and get a good routine going before visits commence. It could possibly take a few weeks to get her schedule set with regards to therapies, daily hygiene, eating, etc. If you are up for visiting, just text/call her or my dad to see when a good time will be.

Dad has been retrofitting the house and getting everything in order and has been a rockstar in getting shit (pardon my french) done! He already has a wheelchair accessible van purchased, and has made various alterations to the house to accommodate her needs. He also managed to keep "most" of her plants alive during this entire journey, which honestly is a feat in itself, haha!

As always, please continue to keep my mother in your thoughts and prayers during this new and last transition. We are hoping for continued progress and we will keep updating this CaringBridge as long as necessary! As always, she still enjoys reading the comments on these posts as well as receiving letters in the mail.

All my best,
Sydney
