Piper’s Story

Site created on September 16, 2021

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.

Our baby girl is here but not exactly how we thought it would go....

On Tuesday (9/14) afternoon around 5pm, Mom (Bailey) was complete and started pushing. Mom pushed for 3 hours with not much progress and Baby Piper started to have some decels (her heart rate would drop) but would come back up again with repositioning mom. At around 8pm while pushing Baby Piper had a deceleration that did not come back up with repositioning Mom and so she was rushed to the operating room for an emergency c-section. Dad (Danny) was not allowed to be a part of the c-section because of how fast it needed to happen. Mom (Bailey) was immediately put under anesthesia completely to get Piper delivered right away. From the time Mom was “knocked out” to the time Piper was born was about 3 minutes. Unfortunately Piper was not breathing and her heart was not beating when she was delivered and the cord was cut. The amazing nurses, doctors and CRNA’s performed CPR on Piper for a total of 16 minutes before her heart was beating again. The Sanford Fargo NICU flight team got to her very quickly and started getting her prepped and ready to be helicoptered to Sanford Fargo Children’s NICU. Mom was taken to recovery to be woken up from anesthesia and Dad was able to meet our precious Baby Girl. Right before Piper and the flight team were headed back to Fargo Mom was also able to meet Piper Jean for a short period of time. Dad was able to head to Sanford Fargo right away to be with Piper but Mom had to stay back in Fergus to recover from her c-section before being able to be discharged. Piper is now recovering in the NICU in Fargo at Sanford and we will use this page to keep friends and family updated with how she is doing. Mom & Dad (Bailey & Danny), ask for lots of healing prayers, thoughts and good vibes to be sent to our Beautiful Baby Girl, Piper Jean Yackley. She’s a fighter and we know she will get through this!!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Bailey Yackley

WE ARE HOME!!!!!!!

I haven’t been the greatest lately with updates but the big news is we were discharged yesterday (10/4) and we spent our first whole day home together today! It feels amazing! Piper is doing amazing and eating great! Our first night together went very good as well. I will admit though I didn’t sleep the greatest as I was pretty nervous but it truly was a good first night and first full day at home. She even got her first tub bath tonight and seemed to enjoy it.

Today, Piper got to meet her great-grandparents who are absolutely in love with her. My mom even brought my grandpa to our house from the nursing home and he was smitten!

We have our first pediatric appointment this week and will know more then what our future plans are with her and the possibility of needing therapies but so far she has done absolutely amazing and we are so thankful and blessed that we get to have her at home with us! We are truly grateful for all the amazing doctors, nurses, RT’s, and everyone else that worked with our baby girl and getting her well. You are all absolutely AMAZING! Every single one of you! Thank you.

Love,
