Phil’s Story

Site created on November 21, 2018

In the face of adversity you have two choices, be strong or give up. We choose to be strong with a strength we didn't know we had. On November 18,2018 Phil became dizzy and fell unconscious in the bathroom, and in the process of falling,  hit his head twice. Our angels were with us as I was in the bedroom preparing  the bed for night. I heard the loud crash to find my best friend and husband of 38 years unconscious so I immediately called paramedics and he was transported to Good Samaritan in SJ.  Upon admission routine tests were performed including a CT of his head which showed he had a small brainbleed and skull fracture as well as two rib fractures.  The plan was to admit him to ICU  for observation but before he could be transferred his condition deteriorated rapidly and another CT was done which confirmed he had a rapidly  growing epidural hematoma and needed emergency brain surgery. Since coming out of surgery on Monday 11-19 @ approximately 4:30 a.m.he has been in ICU. Surgical drain, breathing tube and other stuff Im sure he wouldn't want me to mention.  Our family has been given strength we never knew we had,  long hard hugs, lots of tears and pull your boots on moments . Its my turn now to be the rock for Phil just as he has been for me. Our daughter Katie and Phil's closest friends Mark and Fred have been my support, encouraging me to eat, rest, etc.I will try to post updates as often as I can, in the meantime please feel free to leave a comment and I will read it to him. Hug your family and tell them you love them often as life is so fragile.

I'm the luckiest guy on earth!! Not everyone can say that they’ve personally met their savior. Well, meet Dr. Khan, the neurosurgeon who saved my life back in November when I experienced a brain bleed. I continue to see him as he monitors my return back to normalcy. THANK YOU DR. KHAN and God Bless you for the miracle work you do!!
