Phil & Ambrosia ’s Story

Site created on October 21, 2019

Phil Nelson left us on 10/21/19 after spending time in the ICU. He leaves behind his wife Ambrosia and two kids, Damon (14) and Lola (10). All are Dubuque, Iowa natives that moved to the Denver area almost 6 years ago. Many that knew Phil knew that he struggled with mental illness his entire life. Unfortunately the evening of 10/19/19, he could not fight those demons any longer and as a result, he ended up passing. He was surrounded by loved ones as he took his final breath. Phil & Ambrosia were able to be together for their 12th anniversary on 10/20/19.

Phil touched so many lives and that is evident by the outpouring of love and support provided so far. Unfortunately life insurance was limited because of Phil’s medial history, so his family is trying to find ways to make ends meet financially in order to start their new normal life. The funds donated will go to medical bills, mortgage, utilities, groceries, etc. The Nelson’s appreciate anything, even if it’s just a simple sharing of the Caring Bridge or GoFundMe. Thank you

Journal entry by Ambrosia Nelson

Thank you to everyone for the love, prayers, support, good vibes and light shared with me and Phil’s friends and family over the course of the last couple weeks. The kids and I made it home safely on November 5th and now begins our new normal. I have a lot to sort through and have to be the rock for my kids. They both went back to school this week while I  made calls, filled out a lot of paperwork  and attended appointments. I’m so overwhelmed with the donations and want to send a large and loud THANK YOU for all of that and amazingly they continue to roll in. That is going to be extremely helpful as I sort thru things and figure out how to be the sole supporter for my family. Please continue to send love and light and please check in on us. It’s still surreal and hasn’t hit me or the kids so I’m sure we are going to be hit by extreme grief very soon. Love you all!
