It’s been one year! A year ago today was Peter’s crash so I figured it was a good time as any for an update.

Early February, Peter brought coffee and chocolate chip scones to his last day of rehab. It was an emotional day, we are so thankful for the Scripps rehab center, such a wonderful community of healing. Several therapists said they were thrilled with Peter’s progress and plan to have him come back to inspire patients and run his orienteering event again.

Peter has now returned to work almost full time, he’s up to 30 hours per week. He is with the same team he was with before the crash and is gradually increasing his responsibilities. Callaway has been beyond kind and patient in Peter’s return to work process.

We were at the hospital today for a fresh MRI brain scan. (It’s a little weird to be there again exactly one year out!!)  Earlier this year, his neurologist said Peter still had trouble spots in his brain and he was banned from doing anything with any risk at all, including riding his bike. So our fingers are crossed that this MRI comes out clear and Peter can ride again soon. The good news is that he is now off all TBI medications.

Peter has a call with the DMV this month to start the process to reinstate his drivers license. We are crossing our fingers for that process as well!

In March, the girls and I got to see a Lakers game as part of the #gamegrowers program that Sage is in. LeBron James scored over 50 points- it was such a feat to witness in person.

We all got to attend Piper’s senior night for basketball, where I *thought* I would be a hot mess  but I managed to keep it together!

Peter played in the Bear nation golf tournament with his buddies and his brother Carlo that flew down for the event. He was honored at the tournament dinner, which was very nice. Last weekend Peter and Ruby participated in a parent child junior golf scramble tournament at Coronado Golf course. The golf gods may not have been very favorable but they survived ;).

This is definitely a year of transition for our family. Piper is transitioning to college, everyone is transitioning from Covid lockdowns, Peter is  transitioning to getting his life back. I’ve read somewhere that it can take several months to really process traumatic events, and I feel like I’m just starting to process things now. It’s a very similar  timeline to insurance and medical bills ;).

The affect on our family from Peter’s crash is no longer acute but things are still hard and we are taking it one day at a time.  We are thankful for all our wonderful friends and family and neighbors  that are still helping in so many ways.

Hopefully my next update will be of Peter riding his bike or driving his truck. He has plans to take Ruby to Catalina for her bear nation “bounce out”ceremony that she missed last year. That will be very special.

Wishing you all a happy spring !
Much Ligotti love,
Emily
