Journal entry by zoey everson

It has been one month. There are no words to describe just how badly we miss him. There is a wide gaping hole that is left in our lives. The kids, Bing and I feel it all day, every day. However, we are doing ok. We have each other. And as I told the kids the other day, ‘We are the best team.’

For anyone who asks me how the kids are doing, my answer is, ‘They are doing amazing.’ Because they truly are. Their daily lives just keep going, school, dance class, friends, family time. We talk about their daddy. We talk about how he really liked taking silly face pictures with them and doing pretty much anything with them.  Aili brings up her ‘Daddy/Daughter Days’ and Nolan his ‘Daddy/Nonie Days’. They had so many fun experiences with their daddy while he was alive, but as Nolan will bring up about every time we talk about dad, ‘It isn’t fair for a 5 year old to lose their dad.’ It isn’t fair buddy, it really isn’t fair.

I started back to work this week. It went pretty well. I guess I’m glad to get back into routine. Is it summer yet?

Peter’s funeral gathering and services went well. Thank you to those who came out (in such horrible weather too). Thank you especially to those who came to the Monday evening gathering. Peter helped plan his own wake/gathering, which is so weird, but it truly turned out exactly how he wanted it. From the music playing, all of the photos and of course the beer selection. I hope if you were able to come, you enjoyed a Budweiser for Peter! It was so lovely to speak to friends and family about my most favorite person.

I am blown away and incredibly grateful for the generosity so many people have shown. There

are so many cards with great notes, cash or checks for me and the kids, donations to various places (Cambridge Lutheran Church, Kabekona Lake Foundation and the University of Minnesota Foundation to name a few). A huge thank you goes out to all who donated via the GoFundMe account. I honestly don’t have words to express just how grateful we are. With so many uncertainties that lie ahead it is so wonderful knowing we have so much support.

So we keep going, because as cliché as it is, it is what Peter wanted. However, we will never forget him. We will carry on his legacy. With that being said…

Be nice.

Zoey
