Journal

10 days.  It's been 10 days since my best friend left this world for a better place.  To be honest, I'm not sure I have been able to even process it at all yet.  I've been in a fog of denial.  I think our brains do a good job at protecting our hearts in times of great loss, especially when you have a child to care for.  But, I miss him in every moment of our days.

For perhaps those of you that haven't seen the updates on Facebook, Pete passed peacefully surrounded by close family at home on Wednesday morning, September 22nd.  We were able to have a lot of wonderful final conversations with him in the days leading up to his death.  We read every text message sent to him from all of his friends and listened to some of his favorite songs with him.  Without a doubt, Pete knew he was loved greatly by so many which brings me so much peace.

Pete wanted nothing more than for his legacy to continue on.  He loved sharing stories of grand adventures with his friends and family over the years.  He was so fortunate to have so many great memories with his tribe of friends.  We've setup a website www.team-pete.com where you can write stories and share memories and even pictures for us to compile for Michael. I know this is something Pete would have wanted for him.  Don't feel like you need to censor the stories, these will be shared with Michael over time as appropriate.

If there is a lesson to be gained from my experience that I can share with you, I really implore you to be as present as you can be in every moment, especially those with your friends and family closest to you.  Life is so fragile and tomorrow is never guaranteed.  I would do anything to go back and make more memories with Pete.  So, keep living life to the fullest.

As always, we so very much appreciate all of the love and support.  We continue to lean heavily on you to help us carry on and keep Pete's memory alive.   If you'd like details about Pete's celebration of life, please visit the website www.team-pete.com.   I've also included a link to a youtube video that one of Pete's best friends put together.  Pete would want everyone to remember him before cancer, so hold onto those images and great memories!

We are forever #teampete.

Love,

Lindsay and Michael
