Pete’s Story

Site created on March 1, 2022

In early December, 2021, it was discovered that Pete had a cystic mass on his neck, outside of his brain.  Following a CT scan and MRI, it was determined that he had a buildup of fluid due to a broken shunt from 48 years ago.  The MRI also showed an unrelated "spot" on his left temporal lobe.  In mid-February, his neurosurgeon corrected the shunt issue at the same time a brain biopsy for this spot was done.   His diagnosis following the biopsy was a grade  3 or 4 glioma         tumor and is cancer.  Grade 3 and 4 are advanced stages.  The neurosurgeon suspects that it is the result of prior radiation for a brain tumor in 1973, but the exact cause is unknown in most cases.
