Journal entry by Peggy Dulaney —
Dear Friends and Family,
Since our last update, Peggy's condition has worsened somewhat. She is now bedridden and weaker than she was a month ago. She has no residual pain from her bout with shingles, but her eye is still swollen. So after a review by Duke Health and approval from us and Peggy, she entered hospice care last week. Hospice is a common stage of care for many cancer patients as their bodies recover from chemotherapy. Peggy's chemo treatments were discontinued for nearly two months as she dealt with shingles and will not resume until we exit hospice. She remains at home where we have a cadre of caregivers who help out every weekday morning. We hope and pray that her strength returns, but we also acknowledge that stopping chemotherapy involves risk. Right now, we are focused on quality of life while increasing her strength and mobility. We read her all the comments that you leave on this site and she really enjoys them. Thank you again for everyone's support.
