Journal

Hello all,

Tomorrow, July 30th, is the one year anniversary of our father’s passing. The three of us have truly appreciated all the love, care, and prayers you’ve given us over the past year. We wanted to extend a special thank you to our dad’s dear friends Neal Brodsky, Todd Sanders, and Lisa Keesling who have helped us navigate the logistics of life without him. The last twelve months have been full of beautiful memories, and yet we deeply miss our father.

Jack and Juliette were married in November and continue to love living in San Francisco. They recently completed a month-long honeymoon in Indonesia filled with amazing surfing and scuba diving adventures. Noah and Ashley have really enjoyed being on tour with the Broadway musical Hamilton this year. After touring twenty cities across the country, they’ll be heading home to New York City in October. Kelly is nearly finished building the boys’ shared house on the golf course in Angel Fire, New Mexico. He recently secured a buyer. After that, he’ll be heading back to San Francisco to be with Alexa full-time as they prepare to welcome their first child this November. Kelly has made a big dent on the “14ers” - 14,000+ ft mountain peaks - around the West, something he and dad loved to do together.

A few weeks ago, the three of us were together in Angel Fire where we shared a lot of love, laughter, and time outdoors. This included a great river float down a stretch of the Rio Grande that our dad talked about many times but never got to experience himself. Kelly, Alexa, Jack, and Juliette are currently together in Wyoming, enjoying the beautiful home our family and so many other loved ones built.

There are two lines from Hamilton that have stuck with Noah over the past year. The first is said by the titular character as he stares down the bullet that would ultimately end his life, “Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.” After his death, the cast sings, “But when you’re gone, who remembers your name? Who keeps your flame? Who tells your story?”

While our dad’s life ended after 59 years, we are eternally grateful that he did get to see the seeds of our lives begin to bloom. He knew and loved all of our wives and saw down the paths we forged, creating new families and new legacies. And although he is gone, his flame and story live on in our lives and in so many of your lives as well. He deeply valued adventure and presence. He always encouraged others to take the big adventure and to be present with their loved ones.

So tomorrow, we remember our dad with reverence and with joy in the midst of our sadness. Please enjoy the outdoors, a moscow mule, or anything else that helps you remember his life, and don’t forget to hug or love your close ones just a little bit tighter.

Love,

The Three Reimers Brothers
