Paul’s Story

Site created on February 20, 2023

Welcome to Paul's Caringbridge site.  Paul had been experiencing swollen glands in his neck in the Spring of 2022 and had gone to the doctor for testing but early results were not conclusive. When more lumps started to show up he had more tests done until finally a biopsy was completed in December. On January 19th he was told he had lymphoma, but would need further testing to determine which type. A CT scan was done and on February 2, 2023, Paul was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We are using this platform to keep family and friends updated in one place.  We will post updates while he fights this battle. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Amy Netland

4 month post cancer update....

We hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving celebrating with loved ones! Dad and Mom were able to enjoy time with some of their grandchildren.

In early November, Dad's blood counts reached levels that allowed him to be able to visit with more people and even visiting some of his favorite local places! After being stuck at home for the previous 3 months, this made him very happy! We were all hopeful that this meant his body had turned a corner and big and brighter things were soon to come. He was able to go hunting this year and shot a nice buck! He even got a new puppy for his birthday! Overall, November was a great month! Unfortunately, it was short lived....

The past couple of weeks his lab results have dipped back down to where he needs to mask up and keep his distance from all of the seasonal germs and sicknesses. This means hanging around home and limiting visitors. This was disappointing news for my dad as he has been wanting to get back to "normal". (Great news for his new puppy Lilly!) We keep reminding him that he has to keep being patient and let his body heal. He has come so far from where we were a year ago, but isn't done fighting to gain his strength back. The Mayo team keeps encouraging him to keep doing what he's doing as everyone's journey runs it's own course.

We are taking all of the little wins we can and hope his body bounces back in the next few weeks. Cancer treatment and recovery is a long process, but are reminded daily about how lucky we are to be in the position we are in. Please keep my dad and others who are fighting this courageous fight in your prayers.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and hope everyone stays happy, healthy and safe this holiday season!

Love,
The Netlands
