Paul’s Story

Site created on July 25, 2022

On Sunday evening, July 24, 2022, Paul was coming back home going south on Litchfield Rd. just before the 1-10 freeway. He was on his new yellow motorcycle and he was being followed in a truck driven by his girlfriend, Teresa, and their friend, Desiree.  Paul stopped his motorcycle and was shot in the stomach by the driver in a car. Paul's girlfriend and Desiree saw it all and ran to be with him until the ambulance came. Chloe and Lance were called to come to the hospital. He was taken to West Abrazos Medical Center on McDowell and Litchfield.  They took him immediately into surgery. After about 2 hours the surgeon came out to tell us that he was stable. He had lost a lot of blood and the bullet had exited his back and tore his upper small intestine. They removed the damaged intestine but were not able to repair it yet because of the trauma his body had been through. He needed time to rest and control the inflammation and the swelling before more surgery.  He is in the ICU at West Abrazos with very limited visitors because he needs rest and healing. Please pray for Him to not have anything come up that will complicate his upcoming surgery. Pray for his medical team to know exactly what to do and when to do it. Please pray for peace for him and for healing for his body, mind and soul. Pray for peace, comfort, provision and protection for Chloe and Eathan. School starts next week.  We will update everyone on his condition and his needs through this Caringbridge site.

Journal entry by Jan Franklin

This week has seen many miracles! Paul was finally allowed to stand up and he just got up and went! He's walking around with his speedy walker and getting stronger everyday. All the tubes are gone and he's hoping the trach will be out soon. He's talking fine and sitting in the sun soaking up vitamin D. They moved him Thursday night to a respiratory rehab where he will get PT, OT and speech as he builds up his strength and stamina. The biggest thing is that he is eating again. Everything tastes good and his systems are working good. After almost 8 weeks this is truly a miracle. He's getting back to his ornery self and is really bored waiting to be able to go home. The challenge now will be to help him be careful and let his body, mind and soul completely heal. We are beyond grateful to God and all his medical teams, doctors and staff who never gave up on him and did everything that was necessary to save his life and help him heal. The biggest thanks goes to Teresa who stayed by his side caring for him and believing that he would come out of this healed and whole as a better man. Thank you to everyone who has been praying continually for this miracle knowing God has great and mighty plans for Paul. Thank you to Chloe and Eathan who stayed strong and doing the right things through really hard and challenging times. Please continue to pray as there are still challenging times ahead as he completely heals. We are thrilled to see him up and walking and making good plans for his future. We are in awe of all the people who have helped and supported us to help him and his family during this time. We will be forever grateful. Looking forward to the future with great hope and expectation for Paul.
