Paul’s Story

Site created on October 16, 2023

Thanks for following Paul’s journey with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. This site is managed by Paul’s wife, Darcy, who is providing unnecessarily wordy updates to anyone interested in hearing about how Paul is beating cancer.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Darcy Fastner

Paul's post-treatment PET scan was yesterday, and it showed a complete treatment response. His lymph nodes have all shrunk considerably in size, and the mass in his chest, which was originally almost 10cm in length, is now closer to 4cm, and made up of scar tissue instead of cancer cells. Paul's lymphoma is officially in remission!

Paul's scan did find a blood clot in his jugular, likely related to his chemo port, so he will need to be on blood thinners for the next 3 months until it's resolved.

The last six months have been incredibly challenging for Paul, and for our family as a whole, but the support we've received has really made the difference for us. We're so grateful to everyone in our lives who has reached out with messages of support, meals, gift cards, assistance with the kids, and more. It truly takes a village, and we've never been more fortunate to be surrounded by such wonderful people.

On May 6th, Paul will be having surgery to remove his chemo port. Paul's parents will be coming up to stay with us for a couple of days, as they've done a dozen times throughout this journey. We're both so lucky to be a part of great families.

We're all feeling all the feels, but Paul and I can't wait to celebrate tonight by going on our first fancy indoor date since October! Don’t worry, we’ll both keep an eye on the NFL draft while we’re there.
