Paul’s Story

Site created on September 24, 2022

Welcome to Paul's CaringBridge website.  Paul's colon cancer has metastasized in several places and is considered Stage 4.

We will be using this page to make it easier to communicate updates to all family and friends through the journey ahead.  However our primary intention is for this site to be a place for all of you to share memories, pictures, funny stories, and other positive messages.  Rather than a place of grief we would like this site to remain focused on good times and encourage you all to participate by commenting and posting.

We appreciate your continued support and uplifting messages.  Some tips for how you can contribute:

     -     Commenting: feel free to reply to any of the posts and updates we provide on the page
     -     "Well Wishes": you can post your own messages and photos by going to the Well Wishes tab and clicking "Add a Well Wish"

*Please note that "tributes" are a default part of the CaringBridge site and not something our family is requesting.  Tributes allow you to make a financial donation directly to the CaringBridge company so that their business can provide these sites for free to other families.  If you would like to do that you are welcome to -- we have found this site to be helpful so far.  However please note our family is not requesting or taking any financial donations.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Jean Bender

Paul:  Just a small amount of cancer growth while Paul took his chemo break.  Trying a new oral chemo medication—2 weeks on, 1 week off—for the next few months followed by another scan.  Trying to avoid the other chemo as long as he can, now that it has attacked his eyes.  Hoping for fewer side effects and a summer of golf.
David:  David is still in the hospital on IV antibiotics.  Preliminary bone biopsy results showed a rare form of staph; doctors are waiting for final pathology report (hopefully by tomorrow) so they prescribe the most targeted antibiotic.  A specialty nurse came by to say she would teach us how to administer the IV antibiotics at home, assuming that’s what is ordered.  So in order to get home tomorrow, they will have to:  get final results, have them reviewed by infectious disease doctor, put in PICC line, order meds from specialty pharmacy, confirm home care nurse agency can do IV monitoring and necessary blood draws, and train us.  🤞
Thanks for the well wishes, visits, and banana bread!
