I met Paula in the 7th grade. She is one of those rare individuals who always has a good word to say to you. She is as genuine as she can be. There's no pretense about my friend.
Paula has spent a great deal of her life serving others. First,it was her occupation. She chose social work to make a difference in people's lives. Then she moved both of her parents into her home and took care of them for seven years until they passed away. She raised three successful children who care about others, too. Isn't that what we want to do as parents?
Two years ago her husband, Jim, was in a serious accident while riding a bicycle. His life nearly ended where he lay under the ruins of his bike. He survived until he got to the hospital and for the next year  he was in two different hospitals and endured a lengthy stay in a rehab facility learning to walk again. Paula rarely left his side. What's astounding about that is the fact that Paula had been diagnosed two years before with End Stage Renal Disease and learned she would need a kidney. She put her own health and well-being aside in order to help him recover. Jim's walking now and is even back to riding his bicycle.
Unfortunately, Paula hasn't recovered from her ordeal and her health has declined to the point where she is on dialysis for ten hours a night. She needs a kidney to survive. She's given back and helped her clients, family and friends her whole life and now it's her turn to receive her gift of life.
I know you will see what I see in Paula if you ever met her. She deserves a full life and the assurance of many more years ahead of her to spend with her husband and children and watch her new grandbaby, Mary, grow.
Please consider organ donation to save her life because no one I will ever know deserves this organ more than my friend, Paula.
