Journal entry by Maureen ONeill —
Greetings everyone. My mom's liver disease (part of her bile duct cancer), is progressing, and she is a lot weaker and more tired than she has been. We have begun a "pre-hospice" program through Gilchrist here in Baltimore, and will probably switch over to the full hospice program soon. While this all includes caregivers such as nurses and aides visiting the house, there are often times when she is alone while I am working.
While I fully intend to be home with her very soon, especially as her needs grow, I am hoping to get a start to the school year and be there for my students' first or even 2nd weeks. If you can help me by visiting her during the day, it would put my mind at rest. Hospice just doesn't cover things like I thought they would -- don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful program, but if you are a caregiver who needs to work for a living, you are really screwed.
Please click on the "Ways to Help" section and visit the calendar. If there are other times you'd like to visit not on the calendar, please just contact me on my cell, email, FB messenger, etc.
Bless you and thanks for caring!
