Journal entry by Emily Fischenich —
Surgery went well today.
They took her in at 7:45 a.m. and she came back to her hospital room at 1:45 p.m. This was an out patient surgery so she is now back home and resting.
They completed a skin graft on Karla's eyelid in order to make it close all the way. It is currently sewed shut to promote healing until next week. She is currently sporting a pirate eye patch until her next check up appointment next week. They took a fat graft from above her left eyebrow and put it in the crease of her eye (the space between where your eyelid starts to fold and bottom of your eyebrow). They did this to make that crease look less sunken in. They also lifted her left eyebrow because her eyebrows were a bit uneven. They pulled a back tooth that had previously had a root canal. This tooth had developed a cyst and was close to her sinus area so they decided to remove it. Lastly, they removed tissue in Karla's left sinus passageway that had been smashed in. This will relieve pressure and help her to breathe easier.
There will still be more surgeries but we are closer to the end of them now than we were 6 months ago.
We will continue to choose joy even through times that are tough.
Thank you so incredibly much for all of your prayers and well wishes!
They were felt today and every day.
Lots of Love,
The Fischenich Family
