Welcome to Paula Barnes cancer update CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

In 2020 I was diagnosis with ovarian cancer. After a series of tests this progresses to stage 3 D metastasis peritoneal cancer. Chemo was started and continued for three years. I lost my hair and had to retire from my job after 45 years in the medical profession.

This past summer after seeing a Mayo Clinic cancer team we made the decision to stop chemo for three months over the summer to let my body heal.

Chemo was started up in august per Mayo. But,
After two rounds of doxil and carbo chemo When testing was done we found Lung nodules, a possible lung PE. New growth in my pelvic region. New growth in the region of the original cancer site.

Mayo determined I was now platinum resistant which means that chemo will no longer work. My notions now are PET scan to find the “hot”diseased spots and then biopsy these site to see if certain medications will help push down cancer. Also there are 4 Mayo clinical trials I can be put into when nothing else works.

My family will be starting a fund raiser to help
With medical costs. Trips to Mayo can get expensive.
Some of my medicine is not covered and a few procedures are half covered.

I’m grateful for them trying to help me this way
