Journal entry by Yvonne Dubielak

And suddenly it is March!  Patrick has been very busy living life the past few months. A few highlights since the beginning of January:

  • He is now sharing an apartment in Tiffin with a roommate and full-time staffing assistance. He loves having his own place.
  • He is back into a daily routine, spending his weekdays at the day programming at the School of Opportunity. It's great to be back with friends.
  • He continues to get stronger as he exercises his muscles in therapy twice a week. He has declared himself done with the wheelchair and has a goal of moving without the assistance of a walker by the end of March.
  • New Riegel friends Kim and Cory Hohman and Scott and Tonya Hohman, as well as Uncle Greg and Aunt Kelly, made sure he got to a few boys' basketball games. Thanks to all who made these outings special for Patrick.
  • He is looking forward to signing up for the Special Olympics Bowling team. (Look out Joe Coleman!)
  • Patrick is happy to be going to church at All Saints now and again with Phil and Margaret. (He misses you, Fr. Timothy Michael, but Fr. Gary is holding down the fort very well!)
  • He is very much looking forward to cheering on many friends at the Celebrity Basketball game at Heidelberg on March 14th.

Maintenance chemotherapy continues until January 2025, but he is rockin' it!  This includes visits to Nationwide Children's Hospital once a month for checkups and treatments. We love the people at Nationwide who provide such great care, but we must admit that we are looking forward to a day when we have them in the rear view mirror!

Love to all!
