Patrick’s Story

Site created on June 8, 2021

This site is set up for Patrick Phillips who was in a motorcycle accident on the evening of Friday, June 4th, 2021. He hit the side of another vehicle on his rocket and was thrown into a barbed wire fence. His injuries are as follows: A minor concussion, a broken clavicle, broken shoulder, and 4 broken bones in his leg. His right leg (hip to mid calf) has pretty serious road rash that’s damaged a considerate amount of nerves, tendons and surrounding tissue and muscle. He’s lost his right ring finger, doctors are hoping they’ve managed to save the pinky. Shoulder is a mess with the breaks and a lot of damage to nerves, tendons and surrounding muscle and tissue. His liver was lacerated which caused some internal bleeding, doctors are hoping it will manage to heal on its own. Doctors also recently found that his spleen and lungs were bleeding as well. Family feels the prayers and are thankful to have him alive.

Journal entry by Elli Schlecht

Patrick got to go home on Monday! He will be doing the rest of his recovery at home if all goes well. Janna and Aunt Caroline went to a wound clinic and learned how to change the wound dressings at home. They will be changing those daily. Patrick is still only able to be either in bed or sitting with his leg propped up. The plan is to have an appointment with Patricks surgeon next week, they will go over plans for physical therapy at that time. He still has a long recovery ahead of him, but family is feeling very thankful that things have gone so well.  Family says thanks again for all the love, prayers and caretaking!
