Journal entry by Stephanie Osterberg

I have not written for a while since Pat has gotten home from rehab.  He is doing pretty well at home.  We have figured out what works best in the house for his movement and comfort, and have set a routine.

He is still using a walker and has Occupational or Physical Therapy four days a week. Of course he has exercises to do in between.  He is willing to do them because he wants to get stronger and better.  I do the exercises with him and that is good for me, too.   There is also a Home Health Care nurse who  also visits.  So our days are busy enough.

Sometimes when he is sitting he feels like he could just stand up and walk on his own, but he is not ready for that yet.   It will come.

Mentally and emotionally it has been good for him to be home and for us to have him home.  Between Steve and me each day and Cate on  weekends there is always someone to assist him when needed.  Or remind him to walk and move the way the therapist told him to.  We all want to keep him safe.

We were both fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to get the CoVid vaccine.  Pat had a late afternoon doctor's appointment and the nurse said they had two doses left over and would we be interested in getting our first dose?  Of course we said yes!  It was very unexpected!

Pat has been worried that he could possibly get CoVid again and did not want to go through anything like what he just did.  We are so thankful we had this opportunity.  Our second dose is already scheduled.

We are so happy that we now have another granddaughter!  Rich and Lesley had daughter Bernadette Bea on January 21.  She is little sister to Rosemarie Gail, who is two.  They are all doing fine.  They are currently living at Fort Knox, Kentucky, but we hope to see them this summer.

Wanting to play with his granddaughters is another motivation for Pat to keep working on his rehab.  He is not progressing as fast as he would like to, and some days he even feels he regresses a little.  He says he just wants to be able to walk on his own like everyone else.  He has come so far since this all began.  I know he will be walking on his own someday in 2021.  We can be patient for as long as it takes.

I don't know how many more posts I will have on this page.  Perhaps when he walks free of the walker!  But I want to thank you all again for your support, comments, prayers, food, cards and gifts.  We are truly blessed to have all you in our lives.  Pat has not yet read his Caring Bridge page.  When he does he will be overwhelmed!
