Patrick’s Story

Site created on April 6, 2018

In a perfect world I would have started this site several weeks ago. But of course you all know that we don’t live in a perfect world and the past few weeks have proven to be hectic and overwhelming. Patrick was diagnosed with Diffuse Large B cell Lymphoma in August 2017 and started chemotherapy. The first line chemo was not effective and Patrick started the process of determining whether or not he would be a candidate for a stem cell transplant- an arduous and complex procedure at best- but his only hope for a cure. On March 20th we learned that Patrick is a candidate for a stem cell transplant. Within a week and a half we made arrangements for treatment at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance where Patrick is currently in the midst of the stem cell transplant process.

Journal entry by Jen Geracie

Patrick had his PET scan yesterday and unexpectedly got the results before he left Seattle to come home.  He and his treatment team called me to give me the news.  HE IS 100% CANCER FREE!!! They said "He had the best possible outcome" and needs no further treatment.  It's been nearly a year to the date that he had his first concerning symptoms and went to see the doctor.  It has not been an easy journey and I never want to do it again.  But Ava was right all along, we are a tough family, and the journey has made us stronger.  We are forever grateful for a community of friends and family who have showered us with love.  It's time to breathe one great big sigh of relief and get on with life.
