It's been a while, so I though I'd better provide an update ...

On May 29 I had my next PT-112 infusion.  The team approved moving ahead with this treatment after delaying the previous one.  Dr. Rajan did reduce the dosage for this one and also prescribed Lyrica to be proactive with any neuropathy that could further develop.  I was glad he could prescribe that because in the past I had mood issues with what they wanted to use, Gabapentin.  It was great to have Janelle assist me during this visit.  One of the goals of the trip was for her to connect with the spouse of another thymic carcinoma patient who is in the same PT-112 study.  In fact, we were able to meet with them in a hospital room following his having a biopsy procedure of the tumor.  It was absolutely terrific for us to be able to compare notes and for Janelle and his wife to discuss the ups and downs of caring for us.  While we were visiting, Dr. Rajan's team showed up to visit him after the biopsy.  They were delighted to see us together and were surprised we had connected.  It is amazing to think about actually meeting someone else with thymic carcinoma given how rare it is.

Since the treatment I must admit that fatigue has increased.  Amazingly, and all by the LORD's help, I've been able to still do my pastoral responsibilities.  He gives me the strength just when I need it!

Last week I learned that the expected protocol change got approved through the appropriate channels.  This means that instead of having treatment every other week, it will now be once every 28 days.  This change was something anticipated already before I began the study and shouldn't impact its efficacy.  The idea is that more time between infusions will help the nervous system recover and heal, meaning fewer neuropathy issues.  This change had already been made with another PT-112 study specific for advanced prostate cancer.  So the change for the thymic study now matches that one.

I've been so blessed by caring people who have come to see me recently.  One of my Washington State ag engineering professors, Dr. Cavalieri and his wife, came for a wonderful visit last week.  As we talked I remembered more and more how he had greatly influenced me to pursue the ministry.  He himself had considered that at one point in his life.  The past several days my sister, Kristal, and her husband Nathan Albrecht, came to visit.  They were wonderful to have around, just to visit and share time together.  In fact, during our visit Nathan commented that if I hadn't decided to go to seminary, then Janelle and I wouldn't be married, our kids wouldn't exist, he and Kristal would have never met each other, and their kids wouldn't exist.  It's amazing how the LORD worked all that out with nudging me to make that decision!  What an amazing God of grace!
