Journal entry by Patrick Gibson

I think we've reached the point on this journey where we can call it a wrap. It's been a long 2020 for most of us and we realize that as difficult as it was, we are the lucky ones. Jenn and I would like to thank you all for supporting our mother over the past 4 months. You've provided a tremendous amount of support and we will never be able to thank you enough.

So...with that, our mom had some final thoughts that she wanted to share with you all. We wish you all a Happy Holiday season, and may we all remember to focus on peace and kindness in the new year.

Reflections of My COVID Journey

Dear friends -

As we draw upon the most important season of the year, I am filled with gratitude. And, hope. And, peace. I know that many families are hurting this year for a host of reasons and my heart breaks for them. I hope their Christmases can be filled with hope, at least.

My deepest love and gratitude for:

* My children. They experienced so much pain during those very long 99 days and still handled everything perfectly.

* My doctors and care team. They worked so hard to take the best care of me and ultimately saved my life from a very grave situation. I’ve recently read their day-by-day notes of their care and I’m both sobered and blessed.

* My friends. Yes, each of you played an integral roll in my recovery. I clung to your prayers, your messages, the cards, calls and flowers. I am the luckiest gal around to have so many wonderful friends. I will always keep you tucked deeply in my heart.

* The Ashton Creek Rehabilitation Center. Despite all of the things I did “wrong” they always took such good care of me. The therapists prepared me well to live independently once again. Recently I told my children that they found the best care available for me and they both laughed and said that was the only place in Fort Wayne that would take a COVID positive patient. Oh, well. It was the right choice for me.

* My pastor and church family. We are indeed a very special, loving community and I felt every prayer lifted on my behalf. Of all of the feelings I experienced on this journey, I never felt fear. I know that God knew just what I needed and when.

I send you all blessings of this Christmas season. May we all remember those who have lost loved ones to this horrible virus and pray for them.

Merry Christmas! Thank you and I love you.

Pam
