Pamela’s Story

Site created on January 11, 2022

After battling lung disease and being on oxygen since November, 2008 the fibrosis from hypersensitivity pneumonitis has progressed to the point I have poor quality of life and poor prognosis. On February 8th, 2022 I was placed on the lung transplant waiting list. This page is a central location for family and friends to be updated on my journey.

Journal entry by Pamela Flegel

Yay. I finally was discharged yesterday after 9 weeks of being in the hospital. I was transferred to a nursing facility for inpatient rehab. Nobody is guessing how long I'll be here, my gut is telling me around a month before I can actually go home.

Meanwhile this seems like a nice facility, as far as nursing homes go. Staff has been nice and responsive so far, bed is comfortable. What I mostly care about is the quality of the rehab and I start that hard work today.

I just want to reiterate how far I've come. I can walk about 20-30 feet now, whereas just a week or two ago I could only go a couple steps. Plus I recover more quickly and spend less time gasping and panting after I move around. My supplemental oxygen needs are lower.

So all good things. Thank you God and thanks to all of you for your love and support.
